I want to take my partner to something different from the usual gig in a sweaty club. We both love Coldplay and Imagine Dragons, but I am kinda bored of just watching a band on stage doing the same set. Is there anything out there that mixes up the format a bit, something a little more special?

There is a trend where tribute acts perform massive arena hits in intimate settings with just a string quartet and a piano, completely stripping back the production. Tracks like Fix You or Believer played on a cello hit differently than the stadium versions, and the whole thing happens surrounded by candlelight which gives it a totally different mood. You can find candlelight concerts like the one covering Coldplay and Imagine Dragons here https://myrockshows.com/band/13718-candlelight-a-tribute-to-coldplay-and-imagine-dragons/ . These shows sell out fast so plan ahead.

Book seats in the front section even if they cost a bit more, the sound of a string quartet does not carry the same way a drum kit does. In a deep venue you lose the subtle bowing details that make these classical reinterpretations worth seeing, and those tiny nuances are the whole point of going.
